After
the success of Dark Crusade, THQ and
Relic Entertainment decided to complete
the Dawn of War series with a final
expansion; Soulstorm. This pack brought
to the RTS an unprecedented 9 playable
races, with the additions of the Dark
Eldar and Sisters of Battle, as well as
adding Air units for the existing races
(Except for the Necrons who gained the
Deceiver).
The Dark Eldar
although similar in stature and looks to
the Eldar, could not be as different.
They take pleasure in torture and
murder; capturing enemies, performing
rituals and blood combat. Hailing from
the dark and sinister city of
Commorragh, the Dark Eldar are much like
pirates, raiding and attacking with
lightening precision, taking prisoners
and retreating without a whisper. On
Soulstorm they have a unique third
resource "Soul", this is collected from
the fallen bodies on the battlefield and
allows the Dark Eldar to use special
Soul abilities.
The Sisters of
Battle are an order of Militants from
the Adeptas Sororitas, and are part of
the Imperium, mainly its religious
structure. They worship the God Emperor
and wish to purge all heretics and
unclean souls who would not see the
light, they also convert populations on
foreign planets to the Emperors cause.
On Soulstorm they too have a unique
third resource "Faith", this is gained
through faithful units such as the
Canoness and Confessor and can be used
to perform special "Act of Faith"
abilities; these abilities vary from the
Missionaries "Lay hands" healing
ability, to the Canoness' powerful
"Ascension" ability, that summons angels
to the field.
